British Paddy McAloon is one of the foremost – and perhaps underrated – songwriters of our time. He was the creative force behind the band Prefab Sprout, that had its golden days in the late 80s and earliy 90s, with the albums “From Langley Park To Memphis” and “Jordan: The Comeback”.
His melodic sense is extraordinary, placing him in the highest division of melody-makers along with great composers such as Burt Bacharach, Paul McCartney and even Franz Schubert.
So, what happens when four of Scandinavia’s finest jazz musicians put their hands on McAloon’s work? Well, the quartet gives the songs a new and open sound, respectfully but convincing, adding improvisation, yet carrying the melodies as far as possible in an instrumental context. And luckily enough, Paddy McAloon himself really likes these new interpretations of his songs.
